SPN- brothers
A large friends cut was just done to this journal. It's nothing personal, but quite a few journals were cut, especially personal ones, for non-fandom things.

If your personal journal was cut but you crosspost to communities DON'T PANIC. We PREFER grabbing links from communities to cut down on duplicates as much as possible.

If you wish for us to follow you or a community, or you feel we've made a mistake, please either leave a link here or in the most recent edition of the newsletter.

Read this post for what journal will be followed and won't.

Please do not leave links here to things you'd like to see in the newsletter as the editors will likely not see it in a reasonable amount of time to be posted. Leave links in the most recent issue of the newsletter.

If you need to contact anyone regarding the newsletter you can comment to this post or leave a comment in the most recent edition of the newsletter.

Thanks.

It's that time of year again! One of the periodic spn_watcher friend list culls has began.

So far about 40 people have been cut from the list for a number of reasons- left fandom, new fandoms (there are a buttload of you in Torchwood!), abandoned journals, all-flocked journals, or no contributed SPN-related posts for a couple months.

Journals have been checked back to April and if there weren't any posts for fic, icons, meta, some form of contribution to the SPN fandom beyond episode reviews or off-hand comments, you were deleted.

If you plan on getting back into fandom or are just on a downswing right now, that's great! We'll totally keep linking you! You can comment here to be added back OR if you plan on crossposting your stuff to any of the number of communities we watch that would be WAY easier for us. If there's a community you don't see us watching, or aren't sure we're watching, please let us know and we'll look into it.
17th-Feb-2008 12:04 am - Hello!
SPN- brothers
This entry will be kept backdated for reference purposes.

This is the watcher journal for a Supernatural newsletter. Communities and people will be friended by it to keep up to date on information and various events (fic, icons, vids, etc) in the fandom. If you are friended by this journal you are under no obligation to friend it back. We simply want to get the best cross-section of information possible.

If your journal has no entries or is friends only you won't be added back. Also, if you join the community but have nothing relating to Supernatural in your journal we won't add you. This is to try and keep the clutter as minimal as possible when we search for items for the daily posts. If you crosspost to other fandom-related communities odds are we will pick up on anything you post. We won't be friending people who only have episode reviews in their journal as those will be self-added when the new season starts.

If you have any journals/communities you feel should be added to the spn_watcher flist, please leave a comment here and we'll look into it.

One of the semi-annual watcher flist clean outs is underway right now. What does that mean exactly?

If you haven't posted anything SPN-related that we could link (icons, fic, art, meta, fanmixes, etc, etc- basically anything beyond episode reviews, random mentions of the show/actors, etc) since the finale aired in May I've removed you from the watcher list. If you haven't posted AT ALL since the finale, or before, you've also been removed. If you've edited the security on all your posts, including SPN-related ones, you've been removed. I've already removed a lot of people so if I've done it mistakenly or you have a separate journal for fandom things, let me know.

Worried about being skipped once season 3 starts and you get back into the fandom swing and are posting again? Don't be- if you're crossposting to just about any SPN-related community we'll get you linked (provided you've included what we need to link you). It's actually easier for us to friend a buttload of communities, rather than person journals, because we don't have to friend AS many people that way.

Why do we have clean-ups? To keep the watcher list manageable. We have over 500 people/comms friended right now- that's A LOT of posting in a day. If you've left fandom or are on a hiatus or something all we see are personal posts or posts not related to SPN when we collect links. It fills the flist with posts we sort through even though there's nothing there we can use. When it can take 1.5 to 2 hours a night (or more) to compile an edition, 10 fewer posts a day to look at can make a difference. It's also good to keep the watcher list manageable so instead of 1000 people/comms to wade through next time there are still only 500, or a lower number.

If you have an SPN-related community or a totally fandom-centric journal that you've opened to keep it separate from your main journal please drop us a comment and let us know so we can friend it.

Thanks!

SPN- brothers
All of the journals who have been friended by spn_watcher have been gone through and A LOT of people were defriended today. Some were dead journals (dead and never posted), some were journals with absolutely no mention of SPN at all, or at least not for a few months and some were journals where people have only posted episode reviews. The friends list for the watcher journal was getting rather high and since the journals only allow 750 friends it was time to give it a cleaning before summer kicks into high gear and the second season starts.

Don't panic if you were cut and are worrying that this means you won't make the newsletter anymore. We'll be introducing a new system for the episode reviews when the second season premieres to make it easier and less work for us AND you. Cause there's generally a crapload of reviews to post every week so we're going to change that to lessen the workload and speed things up.

If you have something that should be listed in the newsletter beyond the reviews you can either a) let us know in our most recent post that you posted something new or that we missed, b) comment on the first post in this journal (right here- please don't leave entry links here or there as the editors will not see and post them. Only journals.) that we should be watching your journal/comm or c) crosspost in some comms and then we're sure to see it.

If you were defriended today and have plans to post something in the future don't worry, really. The watcher list for the comm gets looked at every week for new watchers/submissions so between that and crossposting we'll catch you. :)

Gradually I'm going to be working through the journals that spn_watcher has friended to check to see if they're still in use, if they're flocked and whatnot. If your journal is 100% flocked with only a couple posts here and there unlocked but unrelated to fandom, you'll be defriended. If you have fandom contributions but they're flocked, you'll also be deleted because we can't link to locked stuff, nor can we see it when we're updating, so what's the point?

In the fall when the second season premieres we're going to be using a new system for episode reviews to make it easier on us (and you) so we won't need to have everyone who posts an episode review friended and there are a lot of people who participate in fandom with reviews so it cuts down on the number we have to follow here.

If you know of any journals or communities that aren't already on the friend list of this journal you can comment here and we'll look into adding it.

Thanks!
